Major investment set to support next phase of growth at Eden Campus
The University of St Andrews has welcomed the recommendation by the Tay Cities Region Joint Committee to support the Clean Growth Co-location Programme through the Tay Cities Region Deal, marking an important milestone in the continued development of the University’s innovation and sustainability campus at Guardbridge.
The funding will support the next phase of development at Eden Campus, helping to create new opportunities for businesses, researchers and innovators to work together on technologies that support a more sustainable future. The investment builds on more than a decade of transformation at the former paper mill site, which has evolved into a growing hub for research, innovation and industry collaboration.
Supporting the next stage of innovation
Karen Primrose, Director of Eden Campus, said:
“The development of Eden Campus to date has brought together a powerful combination of research, infrastructure and industry activity. Further investment will support the next stage of activity on the campus, enabling ideas and technologies to be developed, tested and applied in real-world settings.”
The next phase of development will focus on creating space and infrastructure that enables emerging technologies to move beyond research and into real-world testing, demonstration and deployment. Areas of focus include low-carbon energy systems, hydrogen technologies, sustainable chemicals, carbon utilisation and sustainable aquaculture.
Looking ahead
The investment is expected to deliver wider benefits for the region by supporting innovation, attracting investment and strengthening links between research, industry and skills development. It also reinforces Eden Campus’s position as a place where the University can work alongside businesses and partners to address some of society’s most pressing economic and environmental challenges.
While further development work lies ahead, the announcement represents a significant vote of confidence in the vision for Eden Campus and its role in supporting clean growth, innovation and sustainable economic development in Fife and beyond.
