SolOLED
Safer OLED technology in a market valued at $3 billion
Established in 2021 with 4 full-time staff and more than £500,000 in non-dilutive grant funding, SolOLED is a materials science company that develops high-performance emissive materials for OLED displays and other markets, such as those in bioimaging, sensing and lighting.
Innovation
We have developed a class of proprietary brightly emissive materials that are ideally suited as emitters for solution-processed OLED displays. These materials are free of heavy metals and so are sustainable and more cost effective to produce. The photophysical properties of these materials also make them attractive as bioimaging reagents, and as optical sensors.
Partnership
The University of St Andrews has been a key partner in the establishment of SolOLED. The research and development effort of the technology has been accelerated due to the equipment, facilities and support available at the University. The University’s focus on entrepreneurship has provided the nurturing atmosphere required for SolOLED to be born. Partnerships with the Technology Transfer Office and Entrepreneurship Centre have been key to building a viable company.
Impact
The market for OLED materials is valued at almost three billion dollars. The wide adoption of SolOLED’s materials in OLED displays will result in a massive commercial success, while simultaneously addressing outstanding issues in the sustainable manufacture of OLEDs.
